Landmannalaugar from Vik Schedule
First, the day begins with a pickup from your accommodation in the town of Vik in South Iceland at 8am. Second, depending on weather and conditions, we may adjust the plan as needed. But ideally, we head out on a scenic drive toward Landmannalaugar. Truly a unique gem of the Icelandic Highlands. In fact, it is known around the world for its vibrant rhyolite mountains, geothermal hot springs, and picture perfect landscapes. Fair to say, Landmannalaugar is a paradise for nature lovers. You’ll have a bit of time to explore, enjoy a short hike for the views, and take in the surrounding beauty.
Second, following Landmannalaugar, we’ll be on our way to Langasjór. A place not even many locals find their way to… It’s a secluded mountain lake tucked away in the Highlands. The striking blue waters of Langasjór are framed by dramatic geological mountains, offering a front row seat to pure Icelandic nature! Take your own photos of a place that is hard to get to and simply unforgettable.
Third, as we dive deeper into the afternoon, you’ll see Hnausahraun along the way. Which is a lava field formed by past volcanic activity. Here, you can take photos in the eerie yet beautiful landscape that makes the fire side of Iceland.
Next our fourth stop takes us to Blautulón, a hidden lake surrounded by interestingly shaped mountains and lush vegetation. Additionally, it’s a peaceful atmosphere for a few moments of quiet moments and landscape photography.
Finally, we’ll venture to Eldgjá, the world’s largest volcanic canyon. To illustrate, it was created by a massive eruption over 12,000 years ago. Furthermore, Eldgjá stretches over 40 kilometers (or 25 miles) and is a place that still feels alive. Here, we’ll stop for a few minutes to admire its stunning landscapes and learn about the volcanic activity that shaped this magnificent area. Lastly, we will return to Vik in the early evening, completing ~10 hours of highland adventures from Vik!
